This is a game concept that I've had for a while, I just never knew the right game engine to try it on, and ever since I've found Pico 8, I knew that this would be the perfect engine to create my Chessroidvania! In this game, you play as a black pawn who's goal is set on saving the king. You will find upgrades that allows you to promote to other pieces on blue save points, different types of areas with different types of enemies, metroidvania and chess styled puzzles, and just a lot of charm!

There doesn't seem to be a valid way to get through the barrier that encloses the king.

In the game of chess, there's a particular interaction between the king and another piece that causes them to switch positions

I've tried that, but (during my attempts so far) castling didn't trigger.

Oh? Are you sure you went to the bottom left tile of the chess board as a rook?

got it to trigger this time, guess there was a glitch during initial loading last time (it's rare for this to happen and not be noticeable)

There is no safeguard against going out of bounds with the knight. (simplest solution would be to make all-walls the layout the game falls back to when the map's layout isn't defined, that way the knight will never see jumping into an OOB area as valid)
